About Birmingham

About Birmingham

Birmingham city lies at the very heart of England ; a diverse and dynamic city, vibrant by day and by night. It has a fascinating history that includes the world’s first industrial revolution, and has some important museum collections connected to this theme. Today it is a high technology city supported by universities and scientific institutions.

Birmingham offers a world-class cultural scene of music and fine arts, and is home to the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and The Royal Ballet.  Birmingham frequently hosts international exhibitions, trade and sporting events in its modern award winning facilities such as the National Indoor Arena, Symphony Hall and the National Exhibition Centre. Birmingham also boasts a wide range of very high quality restaurants, and cuisine from the many cultures that contribute to this cosmopolitan city. There is superb shopping, great nightlife and entertainment. The city centre joins on to The Water's Edge at Brindleyplace, an award-winning canal-side waterfront, with pedestrian friendly squares and streets. A great place to meet friends.

Birmingham is surrounded on all sides by beautiful countryside and historic towns with ancient churches and estates.

Why not take some time to visit the Cotswolds, taking in the many honey-coloured villages and stately homes, or Shakespeare’s Stratford-on-Avon and the nearby lesser-known parts of Warwickshire or Worcestershire.  If time allows, explore the counties of Herefordshire and Shropshire, along the beautiful borderlands of England and Wales, sampling the myriad of excellent restaurants and locally produced food.  You might develop a taste for Herefordshire’s famous cider! Close by lies the Black Country, and in the Black Country museum you can see the skills and the way of life that once fuelled an empire.

This is just a taster of what’s on offer in the Heart of England, you have to come here yourself to discover the rest!
